1. How do I find the right size tyre for my motorcycle?
Same idea as a car: the size is on the sidewall, in that width/profile/diameter format, so you can enter it straight in. The catch with bikes: front and rear are usually different sizes and aren't interchangeable, so don't assume they match. Not sure which is which? Your owner's manual will spell it out.
2. Do motorcycle tyres wear out faster than car tyres?
Generally, yes. A bike's contact patch is tiny next to a car's, so all that grip and braking load lands on far less rubber, which wears it quicker. The rear cops the most, from acceleration and braking. Your riding style, the roads and our heat all play a part too, so check the tread more often than you would on a car.
3. Can I mix different tyre brands front and rear?
Best not to. Front and rear tyres are designed as a matched pair for balanced handling, and mixing brands can leave you with mismatched grip at each end. Some experienced riders do it deliberately for a specific setup, but it's not the go for everyday riding. Replacing just one? Match the brand and model already on the other wheel.
4. What's the difference between road, cruiser and off-road motorcycle tyres?
It comes down to where you ride. Road tyres are built for grip and handling on sealed roads, cruiser tyres favour stability and comfort on bigger, heavier bikes, and off-road tyres run chunky tread for dirt, mud and loose surfaces. Pick the one that matches how and where you actually ride, not the priciest option in the rack.
5. How often should motorcycle tyres be replaced?
Give the tread and condition a look every few thousand kilometres. How fast they wear depends on your riding, the bike's weight and the roads more than any fixed number. Cracking, hardening rubber or worn indicators mean it's time, even if the tread still looks legal. On a bike your tyres are everything, so check them often.
